Performance

What’s different about the Honda Ridgeline when compared to traditional midsize pickups is its overall versatility. Honda doesn’t shy away from offering great on-the-road handling and drivability, making the Ridgeline a unique choice for urban dwellers who prefer the pickup truck body style but don’t want to suffer a bumpy, uneven ride. In those regards, the Ridgeline has no rival in the current midsize category.

The Ridgeline's 3.5-Liter V6 Engine

Honda keeps it simple, offering a single 280-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine. Torque ratings sit at 262 lb-ft, which means there’s plenty of power to tow up to 5,000 lbs effortlessly and haul 1,583 lbs. of payload. The V6 is paired with a smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission that puts plenty of power in the low gears for brisk acceleration. An independent rear suspension is what gives the Ridgeline its refined driving manners.

The Intelligent Traction Management System

The Ridgeline offers class-leading fuel economy, coming in at 18 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway.[b] Its unique i-VTM4 all-wheel drive system combines with an Intelligent Traction Management system to deliver multiple driving modes, including snow, sand, and mud settings. Honda utilizes unibody construction on the Ridgeline, unlike other pickups that opt for body-on-frame setups. The result is a rigid, solid feel that will give drivers confidence on and off-road.

The Outdoor Essentials and Adventure Packages

The Ridgeline offers 7.6 inches of ground clearance, which is enough to tackle off-road dirt trails. The available Outdoor Essentials Packages add fender flares, running boards, and roof rails to expand capability and add a more rugged exterior look. The Adventure Package builds on that, with 18-inch alloy wheels and a redefined front grille added to the Outdoor Essentials Package’s list of extras. Choosing this package is a great way to customize your Ridgeline.

Technology

One look at the state-of-the-art 2023 Honda Ridgeline, and you’ll see this truck includes all the most desirable technology and infotainment features on the market today. All Ridgeline trims include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as an 8-inch touchscreen and a push-button start, while the RTL trim adds remote start to the list of standard technologies. Moving up to the dynamic Ridgeline RTL-E will get you Satellite-Linked Navigation and an audio system in the truck bed.

The Ridgeline RTL-E's Innovative Standard Features

he RTL-E also includes a wireless device charger, but if you want the ultimate array of standard technology, you should upgrade to the Ridgeline Black Edition. This trim includes a 540-watt, 8-speaker premium audio system and Honda’s innovative Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock, which senses when the key fob is approaching and preemptively unlocks the doors and senses when it’s heading away from the vehicle, automatically locking the doors in case you forget.

Multiple USB ports accent the Ridgeline’s interior, with the RTL-E offering front, center console, and rear USB chargers. A tri-zone automatic climate control system allows passengers in the front and rear to dial the specific temperature they want while allowing the driver to control his zone independently. The RTL-E’s in-bed audio system is equally innovative, utilizing special vibrating actuators to take advantage of the truck bed’s natural acoustics.

The Ridgeline's Unique Trunk Bed Design

Unique to the Honda Ridgeline is a locking in-bed trunk that is weather-tight and a multi-function tailgate that can swing out or fold down. The bed trunk offers an additional 7.3 cu.ft. of storage space, and thanks to the bed’s width, it’s the only midsize truck that can accommodate a full-size sheet of plywood. The interior rear under-seat storage is also unique and offers an extra 2.9 cu.ft. of storage. Without rear seat passengers, the back seat area is roomy enough to store large items such as a bicycle.

Safety

The innovative Honda Sensing suite is standard on all Honda Ridgeline trims. Whether you are shopping for new or used trucks, you will find that the Ridgeline is one of the safest on the market. The Sensing Suite includes six technologies that utilize onboard cameras, radar, and sensors to monitor road conditions automatically and adapt and respond to potential hazards. With systems like collision mitigation braking, the suite has the intelligence to intervene in the event of a potential crash. Collision mitigation braking works by automatically applying the brakes to avoid or minimize the severity of an accident.

Road Departure Mitigation and Lane Departure Warning

The road departure mitigation system behaves similarly, intervening with steering corrections to keep your Ridgeline in its intended travel lane. Not all systems are designed to intervene; some offer warning alerts so the driver can course-correct and operate the vehicle as safely as possible. Lane departure warning alerts the driver when it senses the vehicle drifting out of its lane. Forward collision warning warns with an audible alert if it senses the potential for a crash.

Adaptive Cruise Control

The adaptive cruise control (ACC) system innovates and automates highway travel and will automatically adjust speed to current traffic conditions, eliminating the need to continuously tap the brake and reset the cruise control system when traffic opens up. The system is designed to combat driver fatigue on long highway trips and increase driver attentiveness to the road ahead. The system adds extra convenience by adapting to constantly changing traffic and can transform your daily commute by taking some of the pressure off of constantly having to step on the gas and brakes.

Blind Spot Information System With Cross Traffic Monitor

On upper-level Ridgeline trims, Honda also offers the blind spot information system with cross traffic monitor. The system works by monitoring the area within your driver and passenger blind spots and alerting you when a vehicle travels inside them. This system takes the guesswork out of lane changes, giving you an extra set of eyes that comes in handy on busy multi-lane roads. Cross traffic monitor keeps an eye on vehicles approaching from the left or right as you’re backing up, so you can proceed safely out of your driveway or grocery store parking space.
