When an iconic midsize sedan is slated for a redesign, do you look forward to it or dread it? At times, a vehicle needs a refresh if it’s going to remain relevant in the automotive market, while at other times, a change in design can be a tragic misstep for a manufacturer. Fortunately, that won’t happen with the 2023 Honda Accord; a beautiful, zesty refresh has taken the Accord from a comfortable, serviceable sedan to a sleek, modern marvel.

Does Honda have a magical formula ensuring every vehicle and new design turns out well? While no one has yet confirmed or unconfirmed whether Honda has secret powers when it comes to its automotive process, the exceptional work of the research and design team, engineers, and factory workers makes up the bulk of what has ensured Honda’s success for decades to come. Now that the 2023 Honda Accord has arrived, its inclusion in the Honda stable seems fortuitous and most likely will continue to bring recognition and admiration to the Honda brand. At Classic Honda of Midland, we're passionate about the Honda brand and would love to show you how this exceptional sedan can enhance your daily travels. Design

So what’s different about the 2023 Honda Accord? Has it really changed all that much? Is it that noticeable? These are some of the questions fans have been asking since the news that there was a redesign in the works for the Accord. Honda enthusiasts can rest easy, as Honda is confident this new model will set a higher standard in its already crowded midsize class. You might think that’s hyperbole, but after taking a tour or going for a test drive in one, you would be hard-pressed to come up with even one example of the Accord not upping the stakes when it comes to the future of midsize sedans.

An Increased Size and Best-in-Class Cargo Space

For starters, the 2023 Honda Accord has managed the seemingly impossible: growing in size while looking sleeker and sportier. Nearly 3 inches have been added to the vehicle’s length, and while you may not consider that a big number, it makes a marked difference when it comes to trunk space, handling, and interior. It’s like the Accord has been working out for a while and now has a few pounds of extra muscle. Looking at the Accord that way also makes sense when you consider the increased size of the trunk. The 2023 Accord has more cargo space than any other current sedan in its class, clocking in at almost 17 cu.ft., with plenty of room for everyone’s luggage, backpacks, or the weekly grocery run.

A Variety of Hybrid Options

Another key difference from previous Accord models is that four of the six trim levels are now offered as hybrids, along with the half-electric powertrain, which has been an important part of Honda’s vision of the future. While the top four trim levels are only available with a hybrid powertrain, you can still get a gasoline-fueled powertrain for either the LX or EX; they come with a four-cylinder engine, which will still help you conserve gas, aiding both the environment and your pocket.

Other Enhancements

Several tech and safety features have also been included, though these changes will be discussed in another section. Honda has once again set the bar incredibly high for other vehicles in its class, especially with a larger infotainment center and the ability to integrate Google apps. Honda’s commitment to excellence and environmental concerns is to be celebrated, and if the 2023 model is anything to go by, we can look forward to new, exciting changes to the Accord while also continuing to love what appealed to us in the first place.

Technology

Looks aren’t everything, which is why the 2023 Accord isn’t just an exterior redesign; every trim level comes packed with innovative tech features that are sure to delight tech-savvy drivers while not being overwhelming for those less inclined toward using such features.

Google Built-In and Google Assistant

Perhaps the most unique offering the 2023 Accord has regarding tech features is the Touring trim level’s Google integration, meaning that all your Google apps have a home on the infotainment center and not just on your phone, courtesy of Google built-in. You can choose between the Accord’s navigation system or Google’s and play through your library of audiobooks and podcasts. Integrating Google into this new Honda sedan is more than just another tech feature; it adds another layer of convenience that will undoubtedly enhance your daily travels, especially on those long excursions on the open highway.

Unsure whether you’ll utilize Google much? Think again. With the inclusion of Google, you can download Google Assistant. Using just your voice, you can do everything from calling friends and family to controlling the temperature inside your Accord. You can also pair voice technology with other Google apps, such as Google Maps and Google Play. Related to the addition of Google, the 2023 Accord also comes with three years of complimentary unlimited data. This is another giant leap forward, and it will be interesting to see how many other brands follow Honda’s lead.

Infotainment

The Accord’s available infotainment center also received a boost and is now the largest infotainment center Honda has to offer, coming in at a whopping 12.3 inches, big enough so that you can read the screen but small enough not to be a nuisance. You will be able to easily navigate the infotainment center and realize just how much you can do with the infotainment center, especially with other handy features (dependent on trim level). All Accord trim levels come with a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, and the Touring trim level will also net you a 12-speaker Bose stereo system as well as a wireless charging pad for all of your small electronics, though with the aforementioned Google addition, you may not need it as much, allowing your passengers access instead, leading to a happier, better ride.

Performance

With all the new technology, you might be forgiven for forgetting about the two available engines and other mechanical details. While new technology is nice, it can’t take you where you need to go on its own. So what are the options?

It doesn’t appear to have given up anything, only an improved design, exceptional performance, and innovative technology offerings. The performance aspect of the 2023 Honda Accord is, of course, influenced by the fact that the top four trim levels are available only as hybrids. Honda’s goal for the hybrid Accord models is to see them become half of Honda’s sales, especially with the advent of entirely electric vehicles on the horizon.

Fuel Efficiency

Of course, you can still choose to have a gas engine; the 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine comes standard with the two lowest trim levels. If you want to try out the hybrid, it pairs a 2.0L gas-powered engine with two electric motors, offering 204 hp. The 1.5L four-cylinder still manages to offer fantastic fuel economy, with an EPA-estimated 29 MPG in the city and 37 MPG on the highway.[c]

The Honda Accord Hybrid, of course, will boost that number to an EPA-estimated 46 MPG in the city and 41 MPG on the highway.[b] For those needing an efficient commuter vehicle for those daily drives to work, the Accord's array of hybrid models are perfect for making fewer stops at the pump and keeping more hard-earned cash in your wallet. Add to that a continuously variable transmission, rear-wheel drive, and an impressive 0 to 60 mph time of less than seven seconds, and you’ve got a modern, fun, sporty version of the Accord that is sure to elevate your travels to new exciting heights.
