For many drivers, a compact SUV is the perfect choice that delivers the spaciousness and functionality that SUVs are known for without being too large or struggling to fit into your garage. The 2022 Honda CR-V is an amazing expression of this combination and it is easy to see why this has been a standout option in the Honda lineup for many years. With two different engines, five different trims, and a wide range of options available, it can be difficult to decide on which CR-V is right for you, but we are here to help you choose the perfect model with everything you need.

The 2022 CR-V has two engines available: they both have impressive power and performance, but one of them is a hybrid. This hybrid design provides greater overall torque, so if you want the most impressive performance in your Honda CR-V, then this is an excellent choice. As you might expect, the hybrid design also boosts fuel efficiency significantly, which is why so many people choose a CR-V Hybrid. Plus, you can get Real Time All-Wheel Drive (AWD), regardless of which engine you choose, for excellent traction and control even in rough weather or poor road conditions.

Inside the 2022 Honda CR-V, you will find some of the most impressive features and options on the road, with a spacious and comfortable interior that includes available heated, leather-trimmed seating, an available one-touch power moonroof, and standard automatic climate control. The technology inside the CR-V is also fantastic, and you can get an available 7-inch infotainment display, a wireless phone charger, and a 9-speaker premium sound system. Best of all, the CR-V is one of the safest vehicles on the market with the Honda Sensing Technologies package that includes a Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, and Adaptive Cruise Control standard on every model.

Performance And Fuel Economy

Two Well-Rounded Engines

When you are looking at a compact SUV, you always want to find an engine that delivers well-rounded overall performance. The 2022 Honda CR-V has two different engines available, so you can get exactly the kind of driving experience that you want. A 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine is standard and delivers 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) to provide you with a smooth driving experience that responds instantly to your situation.

However, one great aspect of the 2022 CR-V is that it is also offered with a hybrid engine that boosts performance and efficiency. The hybrid powertrain is available on a couple of trims. It is a 2.0L 4-cylinder paired with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery that provides 181 hp and 232 lb-ft of torque. You can see that this is a significant upgrade to torque for the CR-V, which helps when you first press the accelerator or need to push uphill while driving. The hybrid version of the engine comes with an Electronic CVT, and while Honda’s fantastic Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System is available on non-hybrid models, it comes standard on every Honda CR-V Hybrid.

Efficient Power

No matter which version of the 2022 Honda CR-V you choose, you are getting one of the most efficient vehicles on the road, though a hybrid model delivers truly remarkable fuel economy. With its standard engine, the CR-V gets an EPA-estimated 28 MPG in the city, 34 MPG on the highway, and 30 MPG combined––you can see that it is a fantastic option overall and especially ideal if you do a lot of highway driving.[b] As you might expect, however, the hybrid engine greatly improves the efficiency of the CR-V for driving around town, getting an EPA-estimated 40 MPG in the city, 35 MPG on the highway, and 38 MPG combined.[b]

Interior Comfort And Technology

Comfortable Seating for Five

As a compact SUV, the 2022 Honda CR-V gives you a perfect balance of plenty of space inside for passengers or cargo without being so large that it can overwhelm you. This is a two-row model that has seating for up to five passengers––the type of seating you get depends on the trim level you choose. The standard CR-V features comfortable seating with a 6-way adjustable driver’s seat. Looking at higher trims, you can get leather-trimmed seating with heated front seats, a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 4-way power-adjustable front-passenger seat. Every CR-V model comes with automatic climate control along with cruise control. Available features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and ambient lighting for a more pleasant interior.

Spacious Design

You get plenty of room inside this Honda SUV for passengers and cargo alike. Up in the front, you get more than 40 inches of headroom, more than 41 inches of legroom, and nearly 58 inches of shoulder room. Your rear-seat passengers will also be quite comfortable with more than 39 inches of legroom, over 40 inches of headroom, and nearly 56 inches of shoulder room––overall, you get almost 106 cu.ft. of total passenger volume inside. There is also plenty of space for loading up with everything you need to take with you since the CR-V has more than 39 cu.ft. of rear cargo volume and more than 75 cu.ft. of total cargo space with the rear seats down.

Excellent Tech Features

Tech features in the 2022 CR-V are excellent, particularly when you look at available options or what comes standard on higher trims. The base LX model includes a 4-speaker sound system, a 5-inch infotainment display, and speed-sensitive volume compensation to improve your listening experience. Move up to the Special Edition trim, and you get a 6-speaker sound system and a 7-inch infotainment screen with support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The highest Touring trim makes your driving experience even better with a 9-speaker premium sound system, wireless phone charger, and navigation to help you get where you need to go.

Safety Features

Standard Honda Sensing

When looking at any vehicle, you should always consider how well it can help protect you and keep you and your loved ones safe on the road. While a lot of companies lock advanced safety features behind higher trims, making you pay more to feel safe, every 2022 Honda CR-V comes with the Honda Sensing Technologies package standard. This ensures that the CR-V is a safe vehicle, regardless of which trim or other options you choose. While a few extra options are provided on higher trims, nearly every advanced safety system on the CR-V is included on every model.

Honda Sensing Technologies includes a Forward Collision Warning that functions with a Collision Mitigation Braking System to help warn you of potential collisions and assist you in avoiding them or reducing damage if a crash does occur. You also get Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow on every CR-V, which helps make long road trips or your daily commute a lot easier. Every model also features a Lane Departure Warning and a Lane Keeping Assist System, along with a Road Departure Mitigation System designed to help you stay in your lane and keep you from accidentally veering off the road.

See Your Surroundings

In addition to Honda’s Sensing Technologies, something offered on all new Honda vehicles, every CR-V model also includes Auto High-Beam Headlights to help ensure the road ahead of you is always properly illuminated. One of the few options not standard on every CR-V is a Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Monitor, which warns you when a vehicle is in your blind spot and can alert you if a vehicle is passing behind you while you are in reverse. However, every CR-V comes with a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera, and while the standard trim has basic guidelines, every other trim features dynamic guidelines to help you more accurately judge where you are, which makes it easier to safely maneuver your vehicle while in reverse.
